Did Somebody Say "Giveaway"?

Yes we did! Only we're not hosting it this time, we're just moonlighting. This giveaway is unlike any other giveaway though. If you're tired of entering giveaways to win "boutique things", then THIS is the giveaway for you.

So what can I win then?

Well I'm here to tell you: Cold. Hard. Cash! $875 to be exact.

When Forty Toes Photography asked us about participiating in a "great new idea" a couple weeks ago, Tiffany and I did not hesitate to respond. I would even wager that we were one of the first to respond if not THE first one. lol.
Who would pass at the chance to win FREE money? We said to eachother. I know I wouldn't and I daresay you wouldn't either :o)

Follow THIS to the giveaway and follow the rules listed there for your chance to win. When the winner is chosen all of the participating boutiques will send you $25 to the winners PayPal. Did I mention that is cold. hard. cash. ???

Best of luck to everyone!

How to Choose High Quality Cotton Fabrics

Matilda's Peasant Top
Nothing is worse than spotting the *cutest fabric ever* at a fabric shop like Joanns, and when you go to grab it from the shelf it feels similar to sandpaper. Ewwwwww...cheap cotton!

We talked yesterday about how to care for your handmade clothes made using cotton fabrics, so today we want to talk to you about how to choose cotton fabrics by teaching you how to differentiate between high and low quality cottons. If you have been sewing for awhile, this probably isn't going to teach you too much because at a certain point, you learn to tell whether a fabric has a "good hand" just by touching it. Thankfully, for beginner seamstresses, there are other ways to determine the quality of a cotton and we're going to teach you how now!

Tips and Tricks Thursday: Caring for Your Handmade Clothes

I figured we should write a blog about this topic since we write patterns on how-to make handmade clothing, but have never discussed how to care for all these clothes you create. Caring for a handmade garment requires special care from the clothes that you purchase from a store.

New Patterns...Sort of.

So...I have a confession to make. We've been bad bloggers. We started this blog with good intentions! Does that count for anything?  I'm going to try and keep this blogging thing up starting with a recap of some of our newest patterns.

Now, the last time we wrote about our new patterns was back in September and we talked about our t-shirt dress, tutu tights, and ruffle fabric patterns. We've had, ohhhhhh about 20 patterns come out since then! lol. I don't think I can write about all of them in one blog. That might be a bit much. I'm gonna break this up into 2 blog posts (one today and probably one tomorrow). If you are more than familiar with our patterns, this is still a fun post to read because we list some fun facts on how we chose the names, whose pattern idea it was, you know, stuff that doesn't really matter but is still interesting to learn! lol.

Handmade Yummy-ness

I've been wanting to write this blog for days because I think its hilarious but this weekend was crazy busy. Can you believe I went to TWO b-day parties in one day?!? If I see another b-day cake I may vomit...which would not be good for my computer right now.

Anyway...I was perusing Pinterest the other day and came across the most glorious thing. When I saw it, I didn't know if I should be turned on or laughing...I think I was both! lol. See for yourself:

It's Ryan Gosling talking to ME! To be honest, I never really found RG attractive--except for that one movie he was in, you may remember it...its called THE NOTEBOOK! But now that he's here validating how awesome *I* am in all of my boutique glory...::sigh:: I'm in handmade heaven!

The group of women who created Handmade Ryan Gosling are my heroes. They took Ryan Gosling and made him irresistable to crafty women everywhere! They should get some sort of payment from his PR team. He's sure to get the "Sexiest Man Alive" honor next year from People Magazine!

Now, if only every man were as sympathetic to our businesses as RG.... Oh wait! There is one other man:

You're welcome.

Boutique of the Month

Tiffany and I have been wanting to do this for awhile and we're so excited to finally have the following to be able to share these wonderful boutiques with! We think in the boutique and sewing world, it is very important to put yourself out there in order to meet new people and to share your skills with others. This is the basis that Create Kids Couture was created and we want to help others to do the same. So without further adieu, our first Boutique of the Month is: Alicia's Sew Amazing Creations! Alicia is one of our favorite customers who has grown to be a friend. We find ourselves checking her page for new creations using our patterns and we're always pleased with what she creates because she has a great eye for fun fabrics.

When we wrote Alicia yesterday about being our very first BotM she was very excited--as were we. We had a great interview with her that you can read below!

Big Announcement!!!

Okay as promised here is our BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! Starting tomorrow we are going to be having a "Boutique Of The Month" feature on our blog! We will choose one boutique monthly that we have noticed using our patterns that  has impressed us! They will get an entire blog post devoted to them with links and pictures and an interview! Oh yeah, and they will receive a free pattern of their choice. Exciting, huh?

If you don't own a boutique you may be thinking, "Well, this sucks. I don't own a boutique." lol. But no worries, we got YOU covered too! We will be having a "Facebook Fan of the Month" as well! Woohoo!

Look for your chance to be our "Fan of the Month" tomorrow on Facebook and be sure to check our blog for our "Boutique of the Month" as well!!!

Contest Winner!

The contest ended a few days ago and we did announce the winner on our Facebook page, however, we forgot to post it on here! We are pleased to announce Katie Pinkelman as the winner! She used the Jewel's Stripwork Dress Pattern to create this gorgeous, almost prarie-rustic, stripwork dress. Katie's daughter was the model and she made the dress for a craft show she was in! She is the owner of Katie's Custom Cuties! Unfortunately, she is still in the process of setting everything up so I don't have any links, but I'll post links as soon as its set-up :o)

Also, be sure to check out all the photos from the contest here. It was fun to see what everyone made and the creativity put into every outfit! Thank you so much to everyone who entered!

UPDATE-- Kate's Custom Cuties has been opened! Please check her out.
