How to Tape CKC Patterns Together

Today we're going to talk about the best way to tape your pattern pieces together! If your pattern only uses one piece, then there will be nothing to tape together. But if there are multiple pages, it is very important to overlap and tape them as we intended. So let's take a look!

First, you will need to print out the pieces. They come at the end of our CKC patterns. It is important for the piece(s) to be printed perfectly to scale, so we recommend that you read this blog post on printing pattern pieces, if you have not done so already.

Once you have your pieces printed properly, you are ready to tape!

Stay Sharp!

I'm always trying to find way to save money, so when I posted the other day about taking my scissors to be sharpened, you can be sure that even though I only had to pay $15 for all my scissors, I was wishing I didn't have to pay anything! And, I never would have taken them to begin with if they weren't SO BAD! Shannon reminded me that day of an old trick seamstresses have been using for years to sharpen their scissors, and unless your scissors have big gash in the cutting surface like mine did, this technique should work just fine to sharpen both scissors and rotary blades.  Really, rotary blades, you can't live without them, but you sure hate to spend money replacing them all the time, right? This trick can make your blades last a loooong time!

So, here's my assistant, Asher. As usual, all up in my business when I'm trying to work. And there's another one on my back, literally. Abby's sleeping in the Ergo. Daddy is off work today, but no, mama's legs are always the ones that get clung to, unless we are in a grocery store, then they know to run to Daddy to get what they want. Sucker.  By the way, that's a stick of gum in his hand, went to the store with sucker daddy just a few minutes before this picture was taken.

Anyhow, this is it...

Charity Auction to Benefit The Layla Grace Foundation

We are so excited to announce that Create Kids Couture is hosting a charity auction sponsored by Windham Fabrics to benefit The Layla Grace Foundation!

If you are not familiar with the Layla Grace Foundation, you can check out their website here. If you plan on reading through it, find a box of tissues first. Here is a very abbreviated version from the site, but Layla's complete story is chronicled here if you'd like to read it:

New Policy on Photo Usage!!!!

We're growing and changing here at Create Kids Couture, and here's a change that will make some of you very happy. We are updating our photo usage policy. We used to prohibit folks from using our photos because we used to sell the clothes as well as the patterns and didn't want our competitors using our photos to sell their clothes, but now that we are just selling patterns, we've decided to let you use our photos to help market your items. We do have some rules though, so please read this post carefully, be respectful and follow them, or you will no longer be able to use our photos.

First, we REALLY prefer if you share photos directly from our Facebook albums on your page.  For example, say I want to hold a flash sale of outfits made from Grace's Twirly Knot Dress and Top Pattern for my shop Two Modest Mamas. I would go to the CKC Tops Album, click on the photo of Grace's, click share, and write in my own comment, and then click Share Photo. Here's what it will look like:

Field Trip Part 2- Running with Scissors

If you read yesterday's post, you know I was out running around town, trying to shake the cabin fever induced crazies out of my head.  While we had all been cooped up in the house, my kids had been up to even more mischief than usual, and one of them you know who you are you little scoundrel and if I ever figure out which one of you it was you're going to be sorry took my beautiful chintz designer series Gingher Scissors and cut something...what, I have no idea, but whatever it was left a big fat gash in the cutting surface. Maybe you can tell already, I love these scissors (partly because my husband bought them for me and partly because they are the only left handed scissors I have ever owned). So, I looked up the local sharpening service on Google and made an appointment to have them repaired.

Field Trip!!!

It's been over a month now since I've been trapped at home. My husband somehow managed to crack the block on his Honda, and the entire engine needed to be replaced, so his car has been in the shop and I have been stuck at home all day, every day, with 3 small children. Yep, I've been pretty much going crazy over here. When we finally got his car from the garage end of  last week, I busted out of the house with my kids in tow and decided to spend the entire day doing nothing but running around town.

Here was my first stop:

A local fabric store, going out of business. :(
