How To Tuesday: Adding Pockets

Who doesn't love a dress with pockets? Even as an adult I get excited and sometimes and do a happy dance in public when I find a dress with pockets for myself. Believe it or not, adding a pocket to any outfit is super easy. Soon, you'll find yourself adding them to all of our CKC patterns!

So I whipped up this fun "How To Tuesday" with free pattern pieces in kid sizes and momma sizes too! You can shrink or enlarge them depending on how many gizmos and gadgets you are going to be stashing in there. I've got who's its and what's its galore. (ha, can you tell what Disney movie Ayla and I have been watching?) So I like my momma pockets extra large and what little girl doesn't want pockets?

First things first, follow THIS link and print off your pattern piece. Cut out 4 pocket pieces of whatever size you are making. It should look like the picture below.

Then on the sides of your skirt, dress, or pants panel, place the pockets right sides together on the side seam as pictured below by measuring down 3" from the top for dresses and 2" from the top for pants. We should have one pocket sewn on for each side of both the front and back skirt or pants--4 pockets total.

Iron all the pockets so they are facing outwards.

Line all the pieces together and pin in place. Next, sew down the top, around the pocket, and down the rest of the side seams. Turn the skirt or pants right side out and press.

We now have pockets and we can  continue with the pattern as written!
Yay! Now go have fun adding them to all of your CKC patterns!

Happy Sewing Y'all

  1. If you are going to use the Kristi pattern, how far down from the underarm? I am making a size 6 length. I was thinking 7"? I would measure but my GD is Ca and I am in FL.
