How to Convert Lyric's Hi-Low Dress into a Top

Hi everyone! I’m Nikki, the head designer of the women’s and tween department here at Create Kids Couture! I am going to be sharing with you how to use our Lyric’s Knit High Low dress pattern to make an amazing High Low top for your child. My teen picked out this fabulous fabric from www.knitoriousfabric.com that is inspired by her favorite movie (Princess Bride), and she told me she wanted a trendy top made out of it. Knitorious Fabric has an amazing selection of quality knit and even does pre-orders! When my daughter was explaining the style of top she wanted, I realized it would be really easy to make with the Lyric Dress Pattern. So here is how I made this amazing top for my daughter.

Sewing 101: Threading the Machine

In the previous episode of our Sewing 101 series, we showed which Supplies You Really Need to get started. Now that you have all that ready to go, today you're going to learn how to thread your sewing machine!  It's not difficult at all but with a few pointers you should be able to pick it up quickly and get on to what you really want to be doing -- sewing!  So let's jump right in.

Sewing 101: Starting to Sew

It's always fun to learn a new skill but it can also be overwhelming, especially the first time you sit down to actually start.  You get yourself settled in front of your shiny new sewing machine, and then take a deep breath, and... now what?

Well, you can either jump right into a new pattern or practice on scraps for awhile first. (I'm a practicer, myself.) Whichever you decided to do, I always tell my kids/students to remember three important steps every time they sew. These will get you started off right and prevent a lot of problems.  Here they are:

Adding a Drawstring

Hello my fellow CKC Fangirls! This is Shayna, owner of Shadandy Shoppe (which sounds a lot more important and official than it really is). I’ve only been sewing since May, but, mostly thanks to CKC, I have grown by leaps and bounds and have even opened a boutique! But the most fun I get to have is sewing for this little nugget.

Evie's Maternity Top

Hey everyone! I am Nikki, the head of the women/tween department here at Create Kids Couture. I
decided it was time that we do something special for all the fans that are expectant moms! So here is a tutorial on how to use our Evie’s Women’s Everyday Knit Top pattern to make a maternity top!

You will need the Women’s Evie pattern and the materials listed in the pattern, with a little
extra fabric for the front shirt piece. Start by printing the pattern pieces, taping them
together, and cutting out the size you are making.

Embellished Suspenders for Girls!

Every so often the testers in our boy's group get super creative and dream up new ways to use our boy patterns for their girls. Why not, right? Everyone loves versatile patterns! Well this last little round turned out SOOOO super cute that we knew you would all want to see. So here you go!

Everyone knows that the William's  suspenders are absolutely adorable on the little guys. Stephanie Baker's baby boy is so dashing in his William's, Connor's, and Noah's!  But guess what. His big sister also has a matching suspender's outfit, all blinged out girly-style!

Isn't this the most precious little matching set ever?!  I could stare at their cuteness all day long.

Stephanie made the top using Blanche's and Sally's, the skirt using modified Amanda's, and then she finished it all off with her suspenders! A perfect outfit!

Sewing 101: Supplies You Really Need

Are you ready to learn to sew and you don't know where to start?  Our Sewing 101 blog posts are here to help you out!  Today we will talk about the supplies that you really need to get started. At the end of this blog post you will be ready to go shopping, without getting overwhelmed as you walk into the store!

The first thing you need is a sewing machine. Any functional sewing machine will do. You can find one for under a hundred dollars that does the basics or you can spend hundreds or thousands if you want a lot more features and durability. There are definitely differences in quality and ease of sewing that depend on how much you spend, but don't be afraid to get started with a lesser machine if that is what your budget allows. Renting is also an option.

CKC Crocheting 101 - Getting Started

Hello CKC family!  Kristi here to get you started on the road to crocheting beautiful things!  With the launch of the new crochet patterns, I thought I would throw out a few tips and tricks to help beginners or CKC fans who have never picked up a hook!

When I get ready to crochet, I take off my jewelry, tie back my hair and get comfy on the couch!  The great thing about crocheting is there is no getting up and sitting back down...and you can basically crochet anywhere!
